If you live in a flat or smaller home and battle condensation on the windows every winter, meet a little machine that punches well above its size. The Devola DV8L is a compressor dehumidifier built to tackle everyday damp without dominating your living space. Let's dig into whether it earns its spot in your home.

Small footprint, big appeal

First impressions?
It's refreshingly compact. At just 240 x 182 x 338 mm and 7 kg, the DV8L slips neatly into hallways, bedrooms, and tight corners where bulkier units simply won't go. For anyone in a one or two-bed flat, that matters. You can tuck it beside a radiator, move it room to room without a workout, and store it away easily during the warmer months.

It runs on R290 refrigerant, a natural coolant with a much lower environmental impact than older alternatives. That's a genuinely reassuring choice if you like your appliances to be a little kinder to the planet.

What it actually does

The DV8L pulls up to 8 litres of moisture from the air each day, which is plenty for smaller living spaces. Power draw ranges from 120–160W, with 70 m³/h airflow and a quiet 37 dB(A) rating.

You get four modes to play with:

  • Auto Mode — Keeps things effortless. Set your target humidity and the DV8L switches the fan and compressor on and off to maintain it.

  • Laundry mode — runs the dehumidifier at maximum output to rapidly draw moisture from the air, cutting drying times significantly.

  • Continuous Mode — Runs flat out at high fan speed for maximum moisture removal.

  • Sleep Mode — Dims the lights, mutes the beeps, and runs quietly at low speed. Perfect for overnight use.

You can fine-tune humidity anywhere from 30% to 80% RH, set a 1–24 hour timer, and switch between two fan speeds. There's also a handy child lock, which is a welcome touch for busy family homes.

Drying clothes indoors

Here's where the DV8L really shines. There's no washing line or garden? No problem. While it doesn't have a dedicated laundry mode, you can still speed up drying beautifully. Pop your damp washing on an airer and switch to Laundry mode — a setting designed to run the dehumidifier at maximum output, drawing moisture rapidly from the surrounding air to cut drying times significantly and prevent that stale, damp smell from settling into your fabrics.

Alternatively, dial the humidity down to a low setting like 30–35% RH. The dehumidifier draws moisture straight out of the air, so clothes dry faster and you avoid that musty, damp smell.

Even better, it means less condensation on your walls and windows, which helps keep mould at bay.

The honest bits

No review is complete without a few caveats. The 1.7L water tank is on the small side, so during heavy-duty sessions you'll be emptying it fairly often. The good news? The DV8L comes supplied with a drainage hose for continuous drainage, so you can set it up near a sink or drain and forget about the tank altogether. There's also an auto shut-off with a full-tank indicator, so no worrying about overflow.

The verdict

The Devola DV8L is a smart, eco-conscious choice for anyone in a flat or smaller home who wants to control damp and dry clothes indoors without the bulk. It's quiet, easy to use, and thoughtfully designed.
