Learn more about Devola patio heaters.

A patio heater uses propane or electricity to generate heat, which is then dispersed through a heating element. This creates a warm and comfortable outdoor environment for you and your guests.

The main difference between gas and electric patio heaters is the source of energy they use. Gas patio heaters typically run on propane or natural gas, while electric patio heaters use electricity as their power source. Devola patio heaters run on electricity, offering an energy-efficient solution that produces zero carbon emissions when paired with green energy sources.

When choosing a patio heater, consider the size of your outdoor space - larger areas need more powerful heaters. Also, think about your climate - colder areas may require a bigger heater than milder ones. Most Devola patio heaters cover between 12-22 square meters of outside space.

Patio heaters are generally safe to use, but it is important to take precautions when operating them. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions and make sure the heater is placed on a level and stable surface. Keep children and pets away from the heater and never leave it unattended while in use.

Using patio heaters in the rain is usually not recommended, as gas or electric models can be hazardous when exposed to water. However, some weather-resistant heaters are designed for outdoor use. The Devola range, for example, includes models with IP ratings from 24 to 65. An IP65 rating provides strong protection against dust and water, ensuring safe performance even in tough outdoor conditions.

The cost of operating an electric patio heater depends on several factors, including the heater's wattage, local electricity rates, and usage habits. According to UK Price Cap, the average electricity price is approximately 25.73 pence per kWh (kilowatt-hour) for the period from 1 July to 30 Sep 2025.

For example, a small 1.5kW electric patio heater consumes 1.5 kWh of electricity per hour when operating at full capacity. At an average rate of £0.25 per kWh, running this heater for one hour would cost approximately £0.38.

Electric patio heaters are often seen as an eco-friendlier option compared to traditional gas or propane heaters. This is because they do not emit any harmful pollutants into the environment when in use, making them a cleaner and safer choice for outdoor heating.
